Judge Haselton has written a number of articles relating to appellate practice and developments in Oregon law and has been a regular contributor to continuing legal education programs.
During his time in private practice, Judge Haselton served as a volunteer for the Senior Law Project and was Chair of the Oregon State Bar's Appellate Practice Section, Chair of the Multnomah Bar Professionalism Committee, Chair of the Oregon State Board of Bar Examiners, and Chair of the Multnomah County Legal Aid Board (providing legal assistance to poor Oregonians).
Judge Haselton also served on the board of directors of the Portland Jewish Academy and is a past president of Congregation Kesser Israel. Judge Haselton has also served as a member of the Judicial Conduct Committee of the Appeals Board of the Oregon Judicial Department, and as President of the Oregon Appellate Judges Association.
Born and raised in Oregon, Judge Haselton graduated from West Albany High School (1972), Stanford University (B.A. in Political Science 1976), and Yale Law School (J.D. 1979). While in high school and college, he worked as a farm hand, carpenter's helper, and teacher's aide. While in law school, he clerked for the United States Attorney in Portland (1977).
