Named after Hood River and Oregon’s famous Mount Hood, the Hood River County
was officially created on June 23rd, 1908. The County seat is the town of Hood River which was first platted in 1881. The Hood River Valley is known for fertile orchards which produce apples, cherries, peaches and pears. In fact, more pears are grown in Hood River County
than any other county in the United States. Hood River is well known for the variety of sports available in the area. Of note, the county offers windsurfing and kiteboarding in the warmer months and snow sports on Mount Hood in the winter months.
