OJD Courts ePay FAQs

Below you'll find a list of the most commonly asked questions when using OJD Courts ePay.


General Questions

You may use OJD Courts ePay to make a payment on financial obligations owed in many types of court cases, including civil, criminal, and violation cases, if the court entered a judgment against you.  You may also use OJD Courts ePay to enter a no contest plea and pay the full amount of the fine if you received a citation for a violation and do not want to request a trial. However if you received a citation, you may not use OJD Courts ePay if:
  • You received a citation for a violation and the officer did not write the fine amount on the citation but indicated that you must appear at the court.
  • You wish to enter a plea of not guilty and request a trial on a citation for a violation.
  • You received a citation for a crime and the court has not entered a judgment against you.
  • You received a notice from the court requiring you to come to the court for a hearing.​

OJD Courts ePay is generally available 24/7.  However, the system may be down due to maintenance on Saturdays, from 12:45am - 12:45pm PST.  The system is also down the third Sunday of each month, from 6am - 12pm PST.​

A $1.50 processing fee is assessed per transaction. The processing fee covers the cost that the web-hosting vendor charges the courts to use their payment system.  You will be able to review all charges prior to submitting payment.​

At this time, OJD Courts ePay is not compatible with mobile devices.  Please use a PC or Mac with a supported browser.​

OJD Courts ePay is compatible with Internet Explorer 7 or newer, Safari 5 or newer, and Firefox 6 or newer.​

Payment Questions

We accept Visa, MasterCard and Discover credit cards, along with debit cards.​

The case will record receipt of the payment within 24 hours.

It may take the court up to 24 hours to credit payment to your case. To avoid the possibility of your payment being late, view other options for making a payment​

The court will not deduct the amount of the payment from the balance owed on your case if your credit card is rejected.  You will receive a notification if your credit card is rejected.  You may make a payment using another credit or debit card or contact the court​ to make a payment by a different method, such as cash or check.

Yes, you may use OJD Courts ePay to make a partial payment on your case if you contacted the court and set-up a payment plan.  You may not establish the actual payment plan through OJD Courts ePay.  If you are not on a payment plan and would like to be, please contact the court​.

Questions About Violation Cases

It may take as much as 10-15 days for a citation to be available for online payment. Parking citations in Multnomah County (Portland area) take at least 48 hours to be available for online payment.​

During court business hours, you may contact the court for assistance. Use the "Find a Court​" page to locate your court's phone number.

No. By paying online, you are entering a no contest plea and will be responsible for the full amount of the fine.​

No. You can only use OJD Courts ePay to enter a no contest plea and pay the amount of the fine. If you would like to submit a letter to the court to explain the circumstances of the violation, you must do the following:
  • Send or take your citation and the full amount of the fine to the court before the day and time the citation requires you to appear at the court.
  • Attach a written statement explaining the circumstances of the violation(s) charged.

You can resolve most violation citations through OJD Courts ePay without appearing at the court.  If you want to resolve your case using OJD Courts ePay, you must do so before the day and time the citation requires you to appear in court.  By using the OJD Courts ePay system, you agree to enter a no contest plea and waive your right to a trial.  The court will close your case after you pay the full amount of the fine and the court accepts your payment.

However, you may not use OJD Courts ePay if:

  • You received a citation for a violation and the officer did not write the fine amount on the citation but indicated that you must appear at the court.
  • You wish to enter a plea of not guilty and request a trial on a citation for a violation.
  • You received a notice from the court requiring you to come to the court for a hearing. 

No.  If you use OJD Courts ePay to make a payment on a violation case, you will agree to enter a plea of no contest and waive your right to a trial.  If you wish to enter a not guilty plea and request a trial, you must do one of the following:
  • Go to the court on or before the day and time written on the front of the citation to enter a plea of not guilty and request a trial.
  • Submit a written request for a trial before the day and time written on the front of the citation.  
  • Contact the court to determine if you qualify for trial by affidavit.​

Yes. You can use OJD Courts ePay to pay the full amount of the fine imposed by the court or make a partial payment if you established a payment plan with the court.

Questions About Other Types of Cases

Yes. ​You may use OJD Courts ePay to make a full or partial payment on a civil or criminal case if the court entered a judgment against you.

Please contact the court​ and ask about the balance owed on your case.​

Your case may be one of the types of cases where you cannot make a payment using OJD Courts ePay.  You will need to choose another option for making a payment​
